Using Question Sets with Play Partners

A practical guide to exploring compatibility before a scene.

You have been talking to someone about playing together. Maybe you met at a munch, connected on FetLife, or you are already friends. You have a sense of what you are into, but you are not sure how much overlap there actually is. This is exactly what Lykewise is for.

Start by browsing the question lists. There are ready-made lists for rope, impact, D/s dynamics, scene interests, and more. You can use a whole list or pick specific questions. If the existing lists do not cover what you need, you can write your own questions.

When you create a set, think about what you genuinely want to know. Avoid padding it with questions you do not care about -- that waters down the results. If you are curious about rope specifically, use the rope list. If you want a broader picture, combine a few lists.

Add the other person by their identity code. They will see that someone has questions for them, along with your display name. Give them a heads up beforehand -- a message like "I sent you a Lykewise set about scene interests, check it when you get a chance" goes a long way.

After you both answer, you will each see how many questions the other said yes to. This is just a number, not specifics. Use this to decide whether to approve -- a high overlap probably means you have plenty to work with. A low overlap does not mean anything is wrong; it just means your interests in this particular area differ.

Once you both approve, you see the specific questions you both said yes to. These become your starting point for a conversation about what a scene could look like. The things neither of you said yes to stay private forever.

One practical tip: consider using test questions if you want extra confidence in the results. Flag a few questions you said no to. If the other person says yes to those, you will see a warning -- which tells you they might not be answering thoughtfully.
